Star Wars Galaxy Map by chrischanaud Star Wars Galaxy Map by chrischanaud
This is what happens when you got a nerd with waaaaay too much time on his hands, and a lot of years of RPG's. Ive been playing a Star Wars rpg with my friends since the early 90's! Anyhow Im sure there are some nitpicks you could do with this, but overall I think its better and more useful than any of the other maps I could find online. About 75% is from Star Wars cannon and wookieepedia. The rest is just stuff I made up and from the game my friends and I play. Any other gamers out there are free to use it and modify it.
Also, you might wanna check back a few times. I still might add more stuff and modify it slightly.
enjoy!

update- 1/24/12
Well Im rapidly closing in on 1500 downloads. After all that and not a single email from anybody out there. But I did get a few nice comments here, thanks! Anyhow Im thinking I should really make it as good as can be. I would like to add on about 3x as many planets and make it more like a galaxy. Any suggestions for details I could add? Extra info on the outside? Graphics? Help me out people!

Hello! This Galaxy map of the Star Wars universe is the best I've seen yet. I'm trying to find a map, that doesn't have any territory boundaries already, to highlight areas for my own factions. The storyline takes place 200 years ABY and it involves three factions: the New Empire, the New Republic, and the Militia of Independent Systems (MIS for short). Would it be Ok if i used your map for such purpose and credit you for the original creation of the map?

I'm starting an Edge of the Empire campaign ( www.fantasyflightgames.com/edg… ) and this map will make a great addition to that. Thanks for allowing us to use this great looking map.  I do like the Aurebesh that you use in it, gives it an immersive quality that helps with atmosphere (pun intended).

I made sure that Bespin and Hoth were fairly close. Also Naboo and Tatooine. The rest is by sector. By Wookiepedia I listed all the systems by sector (Mid Rim, Outer Rim etc) and placed them accordingly. Though Im just an obsessive fan and not a representative of Lucasfilm.

I like it, but a bit of the outer rim, namely Mon Cal space and the Hutt Territory, seems rather farther spinward than I remember it being.

I used to be a system based RPG gamer, I don't play system based RPG's any longer, however. I could not stand the fact that they stripped all reality from the game and left the players with only a dice to determine actions/fate.

I play freeform now. No system rules, no dice. Its realistic and allows the creativity to flow unhindered. It is an excellent outlet for writing. I love writing.

I'm actually not in any Star Wars games at the moment on either of the two sites I do play by post. No one plays freeform star wars, that I know of anyways; everyone plays Saga. I tend to play any game that looks good. So my games run the gambit sometimes.

So you "play by post" online? Im not really sure what that is.
But I sure know what you mean by getting fed up with confining
rule systems. I guess I mentioned on the map description that
I still play with my friend from high school (we graduated in 1991!)
But we dont use the saga rules. We use a sorta modified version
of the old West End Games rules. But its pretty freeform. Theres
lots of role playing and very little dice rolling. I still think that the
dice do well at representing the randomness in life.

I've done some fairly elaborate game aids like this little site I made
that you might enjoy
[link]
Planning a game tomorrow.... oh shit now that I think about it
I've not really prepared anything and I really should.
Ok I guess I need to go do that.

Wow that site looks crazy big lol. I wasn't sure if I was looking at a real world site or a Star Wars site. Well done. I will try and look into it more once I get some time.

What game are you planning if you don't mind me asking.

To be blunt, I don't even think dice represent randomness well. Life is actually more consistent than it is random. If life was as random as dice make it seem in a game, nothing/little would ever be accomplished. Below is a good example of why I stopped playing with dice.

A colossal Red Dragon stands five feet from your mighty warrior who wields a great sword (basically a 6 foot long claymore). The warrior is, again, five feet away from the Dragon holding, again, a six foot long sword. Now, the dice is rolled and somehow the warrior misses wielding a six foot long sword against an enemy who is only five feet away and so big its leg is thicker than the biggest Red Wood tree imaginable and yet he still missed... It is quite literally impossible to miss, yet with dice the impossible becomes possible.

With dice, that scenario is more than possible; it happens so often I couldn't take it any longer. Nor the rules which basically detailed how my characters every action was controlled, even how he sneezed... Exaggeration, I know. I think you get the point, though.

That site is really only about 7 pages. THe only links that work are the blue ones, and the home link at the top of each page. I was originally using it for a game with some folks who wanted to do star wars saga edition but it didnt work out cuz we were not a good match. They were way into the rules which as you say govern every freakin thing you do. I'm not into that. The red dragon story you talked about is a perfect example of rules run amok. So to me its all about how you employ the rules. MY friend and I that play star wars old school we just use common sense. SO if we were playing that story with the dragon, we just wouldn't make you roll to hit the dragon, we'd just say OK you hit tha thing, roll damage. Depending on the skill of the character and the difficulty of what they are trying to do we dont roll for about half of the stuff. FOr me the dice allow for the David and Goliath effect. SOmetimes the weak little guy gets in a lucky shot and takes down a titan. WHenever rules dont make sense, we just go the realistic way. Though since my friend and I (and occasionally 1 or 2 others ) are the only ones gaming, and since we've been friends for like 20 years, its easy to have a loose rule system. Another thing we do that is really fun is we just start the characters out as powerful as we want instead of using starting dice and gaining experience points. So we start out as powerful or weak as we want and that tends to work out well.
ANyhow the story I guess is what you were askin about its Star wars and we mostly just go by the movies as cannon and make up the rest as we go. So right now we're sorta cutting back in forth in time for a few different characters and its mostly set right after Return of the Jedi, and the galaxy is sorta chaotic and lots of hidden conflicting interests vying for power. ANd it seems like half of our characters have discovered some hidden past that they forgot about so we all keep having flashbacks.

So what do you play?

I'm not playing any Star Wars at the moment. Just some random RP's. Me and a friend are writing some novels as well. I am working on getting my Graphic Design degree and working mainly on the weekends. That is my life in a nutshell lol. I used to game more often, whether console or computer or RPG, but not so much anymore. I write more and spend time on the internet more than I used too.

Well , like I said in the map description, Ive been gaming off and on with my buddy since High School.
We graduated in 1991 so that gives you an idea of our addiction. We did a lot of games like
Shadowrunner, DC, Top Secret, etc, but we always go back to star wars. We dont have a lot of time
for it these days since hes married and has a kid, but every few weeks we make it happen. Lots of
good times man!

only recently have i been introduced to the tabletop gaming world, but i can now see why you would want to be addicted to it for so long! ive played my share of D&D and Warcraft, but when i found out there was a star wars RPG, i immediately bought the book to try it out (i wasnt disappointed). currently i run campaigns at college, but a few of our members graduated, so we'll be trying more long range playing through mIRC. lots of good times here too!

I think it was like 1989 that the first Star Wars rpg came out from West End Games. I think they went under and got bought by another company. Anyhow, its the original D6 system that we use and with all the games we all played, it seemed like the best system. SO, damn, I guess the game is like as old as you! Fuck now I feel old!! I mean I even remember seeing the original movies in the theaters but I was just a kid. Anyhow, my friend and I take turns GMing and found that we were doing the same stories and lots of similar stuff, so we just kinda started going a dual GM thing and it worked out. Anyhow, its always been a huge inspiration for my artwork. Quite a bit of my gallery stuff is from the rpg. And I got stuff in the scrapbook thats from it too. My bros are always begging me to do illustrations of their characters.
So Id love to hear about what stuff y'all are doin. What kinda stories , characters etc. I so rarely meet other gamers in my life.

LOL wow. ive heard of the old West End D6 game, but never actually played it. i do have a few of the books though. hmm...dual GMing sounds very interesting. im sure its lots of fun too! yea, it has been a major influence in my art as well. i usually draw the characters that inspire me, so it kinda works as an incentive for players to get creative and see their character drawn to life. it makes for some fun times!

well right now i think we have about 5 different campaigns goin on (with different combinations of the 6 players we have in the group). i try to vary my campaigns and plotlines between them. our campaign that is based with 3 jedi is more a campaign of mystery and intrigue (with a bit of fighting here and there), then theres the campaign with a fugitive jedi and his two rag-tag teammates during imperial times which focuses more on big personal decisions (mainly picking the lesser of two evils, or the greater good over self preservation), another is with a defel and a kushiban in the Yuuzhan Vong war, and it is more stealth based (working with minimal killing and hiding the bodies), another is a group of 4 droids who were given freedom by IG-88, then deactivated for a few decades, and reawaken during the Vong war after 88 is dead (and it focuses more on corporate workings and trickery), and then theres the campaign with all 6 players together in which Dr. Evazan has fused each of their DNA with that of a different beast, and they are trying to get back to their original form (this one focuses on returning to normal, while finding benefits in their beast forms and learning to live with those forms, and then finding an equal medium between the two, forming a powerful "hybrid" form...all while trying to find Dr. Evazan)
*if you want to know more detail about any of em, go ahead and ask, i can give you a more in depth storyline*

lol and thats all of the campaigns right now ^^ how about with you? im always interested in hearing campaigns from veteran players!

Dang, thats a lot of interesting story threads going on. I think I like Dr Evazan. My kinda guy. Reminds me of some creatures I created called the Ceptians. Sorta like genestealers from Space Hulk, anyhow, they'd sting you with their tail,(the venom would sorta rewrite your DNA) and then you'd slowly start to turn into one of them. Droids are kinda fun too. The original rule system had a rules companion which allowed for droids. So of course my friend and I made combat droids, MAX and FU2. Something like ED209 from RObocop, big heavy walking piles of destruction. If those droids were on princess Leias ship at the beginning of Episode 4, it would have been the stormtroopers retreating! But that sort gets old since we really liked to build interesting personality into the characters.
Since we built up so much stuff during the 90's , it was all set during the original trilogy. We had some mercenaries and bountyhunters doing all kinds of gangsta shit sorta like a spaghetti western (one of my friends loved those Clint Eastwood movies), we had rebels vs. Imperials, smugglers and pirates, and a few of us started a rock n' roll band once.
Anyhow , the current story started like this. I invented this guy Veric -I wrote a good description of him in my other note on Julenda, so read that one 1st. Anyhow, this long lived wondering swordsman was from a race that was kinda force sensitive. At least the knights of the realm were. And my friend who was kinda playing with another group for a while had his character Jora who was sorta queen of the amazon women type. ANd by a strange coincidence he ended up building a race very similar to mine. Tiamallans are deeply religious, sorta Muslimish that way. The women are the warriors and priestesses of the force (jedis). They are a female dominated society where the women live to be 3-5 thousand years. Their religion teaches that they must dedicate their lives to being perfect warriors. Their lives revolve around becoming the perfect killing machine. So with thousands of years to practice, they get pretty good. And they are all convinced that they are the true children of the only God and all other lifeforms are worthless infidell. My race, the Earlians are a little more hippie-ish, monklike. ANyhow, we started gaming again and found that our races were super similar. So we've been sorta creating this shared mythology where we find that a lot of our cultural past was the same. Basically, a million years ago, the ancients had attained godlike powers , and created the worlds in which we live, granting us special affinity with the force etc. But we are not the only races like this. We are finding that there are others out there who share our ancient long lost past. (I guess its vaguely like the Battlestar Galactica story of the lost 13 tribes). Anyhow, there was an ancient enemy to these gods and the idea is that hes gonna come back some day and our people have to be ready for it. The Mandalorians were his guys. So historically, we just got past episode 6, and the galaxy is sorta in turmoil trying to establish a new democracy. Its all pretty chaotic and we are starting to realize that this ancient past evil is making a comeback ( I dont think we even settled on a name for this dude yet) We are starting to see the symbology of the ancient evil make a return in galactic culture. The mandalorian skull is showing up in jewlery, in art, and music, and all over the holonet. So the children of his enemies, the Tiamallans, Earlians, Twi Leks, and whichever other ones we throw in, have to all come together and get past their differences and fight this ancient evil. We're not quite sure where it is, because right now it seems to be all around us and in the shadows. Theres a lot to but Im loving the story so far.
